Golf TPI Assessment

Struggling to achieve a full turn in your backswing?

Experiencing aches and pains during or after a round of golf?

What is the TPI Golf Assessment?

Designed for golfers of all ages, this 90 minute assessment analyzes your physical abilities and how they impact swing mechanics. A series of tests focused on mobility, stability, balance, strength and explosivity will be performed through a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Assessment and VALD force plate systems. By identifying physical limitations, our TPI certified physiotherapist can tailor rehabilitation and strength and conditioning programs to optimize your performance and reduce injury risk. Don’t forget about the most important piece of equipment in golf: your body.

Who is the TPI Golf Assessment for?

  • Players looking to improve their golfing performance. Increased distance and consistency are some of the many benefits our clients experience.

  • Golfers that would like to reduce their risk of injuries. Our goal is to keep you on the course and away from the treatment table.

  • Those wanting to play more frequently, for as long as possible. One of the beauties of golf is its inclusivity across the lifespan. We want to make sure your body remains capable of handling the demands of the game.

  • Individuals hoping to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of their own body so that better golfing decisions can be made.

What to expect on the day:

  • All our sessions are one-on-one to ensure you get the most out of your time with us. You are encouraged to wear or bring a set of clothes you’ll be comfortable moving around in. We will also have clothes available for you to wear during your session. We will have a mens and ladies 7 iron in the clinic for you to swing with, however you are more than welcome to bring in your own iron.

After the assessment, we offer two options:

What are some common issues that can benefit from the program?

  • Stiffness in the hips, which lead to decreased rotation in the backswing, downswing or both. This causes the next segment up the chain: the lower back, to overwork which can result in pain or injury down the road. This is also a common cause of early extension or excessive lateral movement in the swing.

  • A rounded posture in the upper back, making it difficult to rotate adequately in the backswing due to the spine already being in a ‘locked’ position. This is a common cause of excessive arm movement in the backswing.

  • Poor coordination in separating the upper and lower body, resulting in decreased torque (x-factor) and inability to achieve an optimal firing sequence in the swing.

  • A weak and unstable core results in energy leaks and a higher risk of spinal injury. Before beginning the chase for more clubhead speed, the body needs to adequately decelerate. A powerful engine without sufficient brakes is an accident waiting to happen.

What is a TPI Certified physiotherapist?

TPI stands for the Titleist Performance Institute, which is the world's leading educational organisation dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. This protocol is also known as the ‘Body-Swing Connection’. Dom has integrated his extensive clinical knowledge, combined with the TPI methodology and his personal experience as a golfer to help you improve your performance, optimise swing mechanics and reduce risk of injury.

Note: The focus of this service is not swing coaching, but to find links between areas of restriction in the body and how it can cause the golfer to swing the way they do. By working on those areas through physiotherapy, the aim is to create greater potential range of motion, efficiency, ease of movement in the swing, speed and more. Our golf physiotherapist Dominic Pereira would be happy to collaborate with your golf instructor for an interdisciplinary approach to your game.
