clinical pilates

where physio meets pilates to restore movement, strength and eliminate pain

what is our clinical pilates?

Your journey begins with a thorough physical and movement assessment with our Orthopaedic and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Aislinn, which allows her to be able to tailor your sessions & programme to your individual needs. The sessions offer a low-impact stress option for strength training, while still offering a whole-body movement practice that focuses on holistic strength, mobility and control. Through precise and controlled movements, each exercise aims to restore optimal movement patterns and function while promoting overall body awareness. The exercises are adaptable to various ability levels and can be modified to accommodate specific injuries or conditions.

Who is this for?

Pilates is another form of strength, stability and mobility training that offers a comprehensive and targeted solution that is ideal for resistance training and fitness, and well as for those with long term aches, pain and mobility issues. It is also great for mother’s getting back to physical training after pregnancy, or if you’re older and looking for a low impact strength training option away from the gym setting, but still want to stay strong and reduce the risk of accelerated bone-related changes that can lead to osteoporosis.

Reformer-based rehabilitation can be particularly helpful for conditions such as:

  • Chronic or recurring neck or back pain

  • Lower body joint pain (hip, knee or ankle injuries)

  • Postural imbalances

  • Pre and Postnatal rehabilitation

  • Post-operative rehabilitation (abdominal, lower body and upper body procedures)

What are our different types of sessions?

CLINICAL PILATES

Clinical Pilates is a great form of strength training for both men and women, and is highly effective in managing and preventing spinal pain and other musculoskeletal conditions, and the prescribed exercises are designed to improve your core strength, joint stability, muscle flexibility, and postural control. An initial assessment is completed before your first session to ensure that your programme is tailored to your needs and goals.

Pregnancy Pilates

Pregnancy Pilates is a great way to stay active throughout your pregnancy, and to also ensure you maintain optimal pelvic floor function and are addressing other specific prenatal issues you may experience, such as backache, pelvic pain, and associated weight gain. Please ask if you’d also like a pelvic health assessment done in conjunction our programme.

Postnatal Pilates

Postnatal/Postpartum Pilates is a great starting point to help you get back to your pre-pregnancy fitness, with sessions focused on primarily strengthening your deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. These sessions can also be combined with other forms of strength and stability training if you would like more guidance on when you’re fully ready to return to other forms of training.

fitness PILATES

Pilates has always been an effective form of fitness for people of all ages, and we have added it to our list of services to help people become more confident and competent with not only their physical, but also mental resilience. These sessions are designed to push you, get the heart rate up, and to challenge you differently. They are also a great way to get your core muscles working like never before!

WHAT IS the DIFFERENce between the specialised sessions compared to fitness pilates?

These sessions are pre-assessed and led by our experienced orthopaedic & pelvic health physiotherapist, Aislinn, who has extensive clinical knowledge and experience of working with clients in both complex pain and pain-free situations.

For women in particular, her postgraduate training in pelvic health and specialised training in the assessment and treatment of diastasis rectus abdominis and the postpartum core, Aislinn is well equipped to guide women in particular through their postpartum recovery journey. She is also a certified PfilAtes instructor, a specialised pelvic floor strengthening programme backed by strong evidence for reducing symptoms such as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Additionally, Aislinn has completed further education in treating and training postpartum athletes.

Our sessions can be purchased as a single session, or as a package. Get in touch for more details!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do these pilates sessions entail?

Each session lasts 45-60 minutes in duration, with an appropriate warm-up (and sometimes cool down) depending on your individual needs. Aislinn may also provide you with a few exercises to do at home to help keep up your momentum.

can seniors do pilates?

Of course! Pilates is a form of strength and mobility training that has a particularly challenging focus on balance and stability, so it’s a great way for seniors to exercise. As our sessions are run by a registered physiotherapist, this also ensures that the exercises prescribed for you are safe and informed by the most current medical research, and can significantly help reduce future falls risk.

can men do pilates?

100%! Even though it’s predominately seen as a female dominated form of exercise, it is just as effective for men to do too - just ask our Founder. It is especially great for those men who have been dealing with spine-related pain or experiencing pain in the hips and knees and doing gym friendly exercises is not as easy at the moment.

How is Pilates different from other forms of exercise?

Our Pilates sessions revolve primarily around the reformer & half cadillac, which is a spring loaded machine that also has pulleys to challenge your core stability and strength while you perform functional movements in a slow and controlled manner. It focuses a lot more on ‘time under tension’ and sub-maximal loads, so you end up having to work as much of your brain as you do your muscles.

How does Pilates change your body?

Just like other forms of strength training, Pilates can be used to perform a wide range of exercises across many different body parts and areas, which gives it a lot of flexibility when it comes to being used for rehabilitation or fitness. Whether it’s for glute focused strengthening to reduce lower back pain (or simply grow that peach of yours), or to improve your posture to become more upright, the one thing in common with most Pilates exercises is the clear benefit it has for strengthening your core muscles.
