climbing strength assessment
stop guessing. start assessing!
Your path to becoming a more efficient (and less injury prone) climber.
What is our Functional Assessment for Climbing Strength (FACS)?
Stop Guessing, Start Assessing! - Many climbers spend extra hours on endurance hang-boarding when in fact they should be working on other areas that would benefit them exponentially.
Every climber at some point will run into a plateau of their ability to climb higher grades. This can be a frustrating time for many as it feels like all the hard work during climbing sessions, strength & conditioning training, dietary supplements, and fingerboard training are not translating onto the wall. What if you could streamline this process to actually identify what your real weaknesses are?
This is where the FACS comes into play!
FACS is a series of testing that will quantify your (1) total upper body pull strength, (2) max crimping strength, (3) rate of force development/contact strength, and (4) endurance crimp strength. From the above measurements, we can objectively tell you what your weaknesses are and which specific area(s) you should be focusing your training on to get over your plateau.
What are the benefits of FACS testing for you as a climber?
It will help identify your weaknesses and provide clarity to what you really need to work on, making training more personalised and specific to your needs
It takes the guess work out of your training as it identifies the key areas of training to focus on
Offer comparison for pre- and post-injury strength to return you to climbing safely
Compare your strength capabilities with other climbers of similar or higher grade levels
Avoid future injuries
What are the next steps we can help you with after your assessment?
Work with our sports chiropractic doctor (@hkrehab) and/or our physiotherapists on the underlying issues that should be addressed to optimise your training and performance
Work with our strength coach on a programme written by a member of our clinical team to optimise the accessory training work to coincide with your regular time on the climbing walls
Other questions?
If you are currently experiencing pain, a recurring running related niggle, or currently recovering from an injury, you can give us a call to see if a PhysioCare or Sports ChiroCare consult is more appropriate before booking your FACS session.
